Spin the "Wheel of Death"

For the moment, Tiny Explosions has metamorphosized into the less than angelic, Evil Explosions. For more than a year, Brian & Pat have been dying to get another crack at the 48 Hour Film Horror Project Des Moines. As you may recall, last year we made Murder Farm for the challenge, and while its a fun film, we made it in 8 hours. Pat got sick and Murder Farm wasn't what we were hoping to produce for that event.

So this year, Evil Explosions is terrifyingly delighted to share with audiences... "Wheel of Death." No one is ready for this wacky nightmare. Without spoiling too much, Wheel of Death is a funhouse horror comedy that leans heavily into the fun. Soon there shall be a trailer and a poster, but for the moment just know that something spectacular is coming your way and you should buy your tickets now for the premiere screening.

Essential Puppets

Cat's out of the bag, Essential Essence is out, and so is the fact... IT'S A PUPPET FILM! If you are looking for something zany, that will have you grinning ear to ear than Essential Essence is for you. We had a blast making it and an equally fun time experiencing it with audiences. From it's initial screening Essential Essence won the audience award. Two weeks later at Best of City screening it took home Best Editing. Very grateful to be recognized for our work and excited to follow this film up with a 48 horror film in October that is sure to make audiences say "WTF am I watching?!" Fingers crossed we knock it out of the park.

So much behind the scenes on the way. Subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don't miss out on the forthcoming fun.

Tiny Explosions is a rotating circus of Central Iowa friends who enjoy playing pretend and occasionally attempt to create short films.

The roots of our filmmaking trace back to the mid-90s when founding members Brian Hogan and Patrick Boberg met in junior high. What started as simple silliness with cameras eventually spawned "films" about a serial cat killer, destruction of private property, free-style walking, a sentient lawn ornament, political activism to create New Kids on the Block Day, and other nonsense.

Fast forward 15 years where Hogan and Pat once again found themselves with too much free time, access to camera equipment, puppets and the ever present storytelling itch. Within six months, the duo had created three goofy short films and felt ready to take on the 2012 Des Moines 48 Hour Film Project.

As the years pass our free time to make films has waxed and waned, but come each July, we drop everything to produce a new installment in the Tiny Explosions saga.

Please enjoy the films, as well as the behind the scenes extras from every film.

Following the 2023 48 Hour Film Project, Pat was invited out to Marengo to show Essential Essence in an online 48 short film showcase hosted by Mediaverse Studios. Laughs were had, longwinded tangents were discussed, and puppets were celebrated. Enjoy.

Life's Short, Be Silly.
